Wayfind privacy policy

Last updated October 5, 2026Contact: him@thejamiefarrell.com

Wayfind is a product finder quiz app for Shopify, made and run by Jamie Farrell through TFC Business Solutions LLC, Orlando, Florida ("I" and "me" below). This policy explains what Wayfind stores when a merchant installs it, why, where it is kept and how it is deleted.

For shoppers' data, the merchant decides what the quiz is for, and I process that data on the merchant's behalf. If you took a quiz on a store, that store is your first point of contact. You can also email me.

What Wayfind stores

About the store

  • The store's Shopify domain, name, currency and plan, and an access token from Shopify so the app can read products, create or update customers who leave their email, and receive order notifications.
  • The quizzes the merchant builds: questions, results, product picks and design settings.
  • Daily counts of quiz starts and completions.
  • For billing: order ID and number, date, subtotal, the amount counted and the fee, and the quiz result that led to it. No names, emails or addresses.

About people who take a quiz

DataWhy
Quiz answers and the result reachedTo show the right products and let the merchant see what people chose
A random visitor ID kept in the browser's local storageSo a repeat visit is counted once. It is not linked to anyone unless they give an email
Email address, if the person enters oneSo the merchant can follow up
Whether they ticked the marketing consent boxTo record consent accurately
Shopify customer IDWhen the person is logged in, or after Wayfind creates or updates their customer record
A cart attribute named _wf_quiz holding the result ID and a timestampOnly to tell whether an order followed a quiz within 7 days, for billing

What Wayfind writes to Shopify

When someone enters their email, Wayfind creates or updates their customer record in the merchant's Shopify store. It adds the tags wayfind-quiz and quiz-result: plus the result, and saves their answers in a customer metafield. If they ticked the consent box, it sets their email marketing status in Shopify to subscribed. If they did not, it does not subscribe them.

Wayfind stores no phone numbers, postal addresses or payment details, and no browsing history.

Where data is kept and who sees it

The copy of Wayfind you install from the Shopify App Store runs at wayfind.shoplyft.online on shared web hosting from Spaceship, my hosting provider, and keeps its data in a database file on that server. I also run private copies of the app for a few stores I work with directly. Those run on Railway, which says it encrypts the data it stores. Data travels only between Shopify and the app, and every connection is served over HTTPS.

Shopify is the platform the app runs on. To bill the 1% usage charge, the app sends Shopify the store's ID and an amount, nothing about shoppers. Apart from Shopify and those two hosts, there are no sub-processors. For merchants, the data processing agreement sets out how I handle this data on your behalf.

Studio keeps a log of each time someone opens a list or record with personal data in it, or downloads an export: what was opened, when, and the staff account when Shopify provides it. I keep each entry for 180 days, then delete it, and the whole log goes sooner if the store's data is erased.

What I never do

  • I never sell data or share it with advertisers.
  • There are no third-party trackers, analytics tools or advertising pixels in the app or its storefront blocks.
  • The app stores no phone numbers and no payment details. Shopify handles payments.

Cookies and local storage

The quiz sets no cookies. It keeps the random visitor ID in the browser's local storage and talks only to the store's own domain.

It checks Shopify's customer privacy settings first and keeps the visitor ID only where the store does not need to ask for consent or the shopper has allowed analytics; otherwise the quiz works the same and the response is saved without one.

Keeping and deleting data

Wayfind keeps quiz responses until the merchant deletes the quiz or the response, or uninstalls the app.

  • When a customer asks to be deleted. Shopify sends the app a redact request. Wayfind deletes every quiz response linked to that customer's ID or email. Any data request file prepared for them is deleted too. The tags, metafield and marketing status it wrote are part of the merchant's own Shopify customer record, which Shopify handles.
  • When a merchant uninstalls. The app stops working on the storefront right away. Shopify asks apps to erase a store's data 48 hours after uninstall. When that request arrives, the app deletes everything it holds for the store.
  • Data requests. When a customer asks a merchant for their data, Shopify tells the app. Wayfind gathers everything it holds about that customer into a file, and the merchant downloads it from Studio (Leads, under Customer data requests) and sends it to the customer. Nothing goes to the customer automatically. I will help if asked. I keep the file for 30 days after the merchant first downloads it, or 90 days if it is never downloaded, then delete it.
